The Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) in Tijuana, Mexico launched the Yunus Social Business Center on 11th October, 2018 in the presence of Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus. The university also awarded the Nobel Laureate an honorary degree in special convention ceremony.

UABC is one of the 43 state universities throughout Mexico as part of the country's state university system.  The ceremony had a large audience bringing the top officials of the University, as well as students. The YSBC was signed into agreement in 2017 and the official launching ceremony took place during Professor Yunus' visit there.

The UABC-Yunus Centre for social business and welfare (UABC-Yunus Centre) is established with the aim of deepening its vocation of social responsibility, through the development of social community intervention, aimed at strengthening social businesses to solve problems of society in its most vulnerable segments, under the ideas and philosophy of Professor Muhammad Yunus. UABC has already introduced Master and Ph D program in social business.  They also provide several master and Ph D scholarships.

The first expo of micro entrepreneurs was held with great success during this visit.  Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus took the time to be with and take pictures with the micro-entrepreneurs to encourage them, also tried out their products. The President of the university, and the coordinator of the UABC-Yunus Centre project, Dr. Alejandro Mungaray Lagarda, the director of YSBC at UABC accompanied him.

As part of the activities for the visit, Professor Muhammad Yunus was presented the book "Overcoming poverty with social businesses in Tijuana" a compendium of stories of micro-enterprises in the city and how the attendance of university students have managed to generate positive change in them. These stories began before the UABC-Yunus Centre was founded, but the work on them was inspired by the concepts promoted by Professor Yunus.

Professor Yunus also launched the Yunus Center on October 12 at the University of Monterrey in the city of Monterrey, which is known as the richest city in the entire Latin America, in an elaborate ceremony attended by professors and students. University of Monterrey, Mexico is one of the top private universities of Mexico. This centre represents the 64th Yunus Centre in the global network, and  the 2nd in Mexico.
